Staring contest on NYC train leads to rider getting shoved onto subway tracks

A staring contest on an E train erupted in violence Friday when one of the men involved shoved the other onto Manhattan subway tracks, cops said.The two men were arguing over who stared at who first as the southbound train pulled into the West Fourth Street Station in Greenwich Village station around 9 a.m., according to police.The victim stepped off the train — but the suspect followed him onto the platform and shoved him onto the tracks after the train pulled away, authorities said.Quick-thinking bystanders hauled the man back onto the platform before disaster struck, police said.The victim had little bruises and scratches and was taken to Bellevue Hospital.The suspect — described as a stocky black man about 5-foot-7, dressed all in black with black and white sneakers and carrying a black bag — fled downstairs in the station, toward the B/D train line.Investigators were checking station cameras to track him down.Cops are also still hunting for another suspect accused of shoving a straphanger onto subway tracks in Harlem on Tuesday.The two men got into a dispute on the southbound 3 train platform at 125th Street around 9 p.m.when the creep pushed the 40-year-old victim.Good Samaritans pulled the victim to safety and he was taken to Harlem Hospital in stable condition.The victim told police he did not know his attacker, though witnesses said the two men had been arguing before the shove.The suspect was seen on camera wearing all black with a pulled-up hood and carrying a black duffel bag....
