Zay Flowers leaves practice in Ravens injury scare days after signing $140 million contract

Zay Flowers gave the Ravens quite the injury scare at training camp, days after signing a four-year, $140 million contract extension.Flowers limped off the field during 7-on-7 drills after reportedly colliding with safety Jaylinn Hawkins while running over the middle.He immediately fell to the ground and had difficulty getting to his feet while being tended to by trainers.

He was flexing his right leg.The 25-year-old walked off the field under his own power.First-year Ravens coach Jesse Minter told reporters that Flowers suffered a quad contusion.He is day-to-day and is not expected to miss significant time.Baltimore had plenty invested in Flowers as his contract includes $108 million guaranteed.

It is tied with Vikings star Justin Jefferson for the fourth-highest value per year for receivers at $35 million.Flowers is coming off a career year that saw him have 1,211 receiving yards, second behind Mark Andrews’ 1,361 for the franchise record.It was good enough for 36.9 percent of the team’s total receiving yardage.Flowers posted a career-high 86 catches and matched a career best with five touchdowns. The 2023 first-round pick is part of a wide receiver corps that includes Rashod Bateman, Devontez Walker and Ja’Kobi Lane for a team looking to get back to the playoffs after a heartbreaking loss to the Steelers kept them out of the postseason a year ago — and led to longtime coach John Harbaugh getting fired....
