Jacob Wilson sets insane MLB record as Athletics crash Red Sox party

The Boston Red Sox were probably not expecting the 47-71 Athletics to be the team that stopped their absurd hot streak over the past six or so weeks.But baseball is strange that way, which was proven once again when the Athletics took two games out of their three-game series at Fenway Park over the weekend.

Boston entered the series on a 26-3 streak, had won nine straight games, then dominated the Athletics with a 13-1 victory on Friday night.Then the Athletics battled back and ended up taking the next two games, first with a 7-3 win on Saturday then a 4-3 win on Sunday.

The Athletics had lost 12 straight series before this, and might have lost this one if not for several critical defensive plays Athletics shortstop Jacob Wilson made to preserve his team’s lead on Sunday.And when the game ended, it cemented a wild MLB record for the star shortstop.Sunday’s game marked the 111th consecutive contest that Wilson finished without recording an error, per MLB.com.

This surpassed former Baltimore Orioles shortstop Mike Bordick’s record for consecutive games played at shortstop without an error, which he set in 2022.Wilson hasn’t made an error since July 6, 2025, meaning he has gone more than a year without doing so.It will be fascinating to see how long Wilson can go without committing an error.

And this might be one of the few things Athletics fans can follow with any excitement as this otherwise abysmal season concludes.Wilson (who signed a seven-year, $70 million contract extension with the Athletics this past offseason) is hitting .269 with just seven home runs and a .693 OPS this season.

But at least he’s a defensive phenom....
