Geno Smith gives worrisome flashbacks with ugly Jets practice

After catching a deflected pass from Geno Smith during a red-zone period, Wilson juked one defender, split three more, and then crossed the goal-line for a touchdown.It was easy to believe it was 2014.Geno Smith looked like the unreliable, turnover-prone quarterback the Jets drafted more than a decade ago.

His first pass of the day was a pick-six to Tampa cornerback Damarion Williams.Then, after several missed throws, Smith was intercepted twice more, including an inexplicable short throw directly to Bucs linebacker Josiah Trotter.Last season, the Jets became the first team in NFL history to fail to record an interception all season.

On Tuesday, Aaron Glenn’s defense provided hope it would avoid infamy again after Jets safety Jarius Monroe picked off Baker Mayfield.Dane Belton also almost intercepted the Bucs quarterback, with the new Jets safety deflecting multiple balls in a stellar practice.Practice was halted for several minutes after Qwan’tez Stiggers passed out near the sideline, following a play.

The Jets cornerback left the field on a stretcher and was taken to a nearby hospital, though head coach Aaron Glenn said that Stiggers was conscious and talking before he departed in an ambulance.Defensive end Joseph Ossai was taken off the PUP list on Tuesday and could return to practice as soon as next week....
