The two artists recorded the track in one afternoon, when they found themselves “messing around with no intent other than to see what came out,” according to a press release.“Skrillex would do some bits and pass the laptop to me,” MPH recalled.
“I’d do some bits and, pretty soon, we’d married our sounds together.” ‘Mirage’ kicks off with energetic, skittering percussion before the vocals arrive, sampling Red Rat’s early-2000s Jamaican dancefloor staple ‘ShellyAnn.’ With bright chords and a propulsive beat with a nasty edge, the track is a party-starter with teeth, moving with a restless precision and doing exactly what a festival record is supposed to do: make bodies react before brains catch up.MPH had been road-testing ‘Mirage’ since teasing the track at EDC Las Vegas in May, after which it became a weapon in his sets at major festivals like Lightning in a Bottle and Lollapalooza.
