As one self-declared “Mangionista,” 27-year-old Abril Rios, said outside the courthouse: “I see it more of a revolutionary act of protest, the likes of which we haven’t seen since the civil rights era.”Another dimwit gushed that she and the killer used the same sleeping medication, calling it “a little bonding moment.”These people who treated Mangione’s twisted manifesto — in which he seemingly admired headlines about the murder that “convey[ed] a greedy bastard that had it coming” — as their modern-day bible will say he’s a hero and a martyr for a greater cause.But the preppy rich kid turned cold-blooded murderer is nothing but a sad-sack loser who ruined his own life — and the lives of the Thompson family, including his two sons who were just 16 and 19 at the time of his death.Mangione’s brazen assassination of Thompson on a Midtown Manhattan street also shattered a fragile sense of security for anyone with success, as his shots declared war and open season on individuals with a high net worth or any sort of perceived power.A civilized society cannot function this way — and Mangione must pay.Days after the murder, the lowlife was arrested at a Pennsylvania McDonald’s, a development that should have brought us a sense of relief.Instead, the aftermath was almost as horrifying as Thompson’s killing.People cheered this executioner.
