Virginia State University mass-shooting suspect found cowering in campus closet over 14 hours after mayhem

The 19-year-old suspect in Saturday’s mass shooting at Virginia State University was found cowering in a campus closet more than 14 hours after police said he shot and wounded five people.Camron Harris, who is not a student at the school, was nabbed while hiding inside the Seward Hall dorm around 4 p.m.Saturday by Chesterfield County police, Fox59 News reported.Harris is now being held without bail at the county jail on four counts of malicious wounding and four counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to the outlet.The accused gunman, who lives in Henrico about 30 miles from the university, allegedly opened fire at the campus shortly before 1:30 a.m., wounding a 20-year-old male student and four other people between the ages of 17 to 23 who were not enrolled at the school.The victims were hospitalized after the shooting, with one treated and released.Police have not revealed a possible motive for the gunplay.The university was temporarily placed on lockdown after the shooting.

The incident came amid a spate of mass shootings across the US over the weekend, including at an outdoor concert in Kentucky that left four people wounded.Two children, ages 4 and 14, were among those shot in the Kentucky carnage.Police said the shooting took place around 6:45 p.m.
