Iconic Dodger Stadium significantly damaged in scary car crash

An iconic sign outside of Dodger Stadium was heavily damaged after a car slammed into it over the weekend.The vehicle crashed into a gate near an entrance at the Dodgers’ home venue at around 3:02 a.m.on Sunday, a spokesperson for the LAPD told the California Post Tuesday.Video of the aftermath of the wreck, captured by Caught LA, showed a driver of a BMW appear to lose control while exiting a nearby freeway and slamming into the base of the sign before careening into the gate.One of the posts holding up the famed board was completely uprooted by the force of the impact.

The letter “U” on the sign also ended up getting dislodged.The BMW, meanwhile, was mangled.Fortunately, according to the LAPD, no one appeared to sustain injuries, and after the driver exchanged information with on-site Dodger Stadium security, they left without further incident.In the hours after the crash, the sign was taken down, and on Tuesday, the area was under construction.

A bulldozer could be seen on the site, while plywood covered up the holes that the sign’s posts once filled.A request seeking comment on the situation from the Dodgers on Tuesday was not immediately returned.The Dodgers went on to play a game at Dodger Stadium later Sunday afternoon, losing to the Brewers.They’re now on the road for a three-game series against the Rockies in Colorado.The team is slated to return home for another series with the Pirates beginning on Friday....
