Seahawks probably would have cut Terrion Arnold if new corner was on roster before kidnapping arrest

If Terrion Arnold had been a member of the Seahawks when he was arrested on charges of kidnapping and robbery earlier this summer, the team likely would have released him. However, it didn’t seem to keep the defending Super Bowl champions from signing him. This week’s episode of “Hard Knocks” on HBO focused on the team’s decision to sign Arnold, and at one point, general manager John Schneider told special teams coordinator Jay Harbaugh that “I think we probably would have had to let him go” if Arnold had been a Seahawk at the time of his arrest. Harbaugh, the son of Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh, asked why the Lions released Arnold in the first place. “It was because it was very shocking,” Schneider said.“If you read The Athletic article, it’s not good.”“You would imagine if it was flipped, it would probably be the same thing here?” Harbaugh later said during the conversation, before Schneider responded. Harbaugh then acknowledges that “when you’re the team, it’s different than the second-chance team.” The Lions released Arnold in June following his arrest stemming from an alleged February incident.
He’s facing charges that could lead to a life sentence in jail. Arnold was granted bail, allowing him to continue with the NFL for the time being while the legal case plays out. It’s unclear whether the NFL will hand down any supplementary discipline, and there has not been a timetable announced for when Arnold will arrive in Seattle. ESPN reported that Arnold will be placed on the NFL commissioner’s exempt list when he officially signs with the Seahawks, which would prevent him from playing or practicing while the league examines his situation. He would, however, still be paid and still be able to attend meetings.
