Sean McVay provides injury update on key Rams offensive lineman

Los Angeles Rams rookie Keagen Trost’s preseason debut was cut short after he sustained a hamstring injury.He started the game at right tackle against the Kansas City Chiefs, but exited in the first quarter and was quickly ruled out of the matchup.

On Thursday, head coach Sean McVay said the Rams are hopeful the offensive lineman can return before the Week 1 showdown against the San Francisco 49ers in Australia.“We’ll see about Keagen.We’re hopeful that he’ll be able to return before the first game,” McVay said.

“But if not, I think [OL] David Quessenberry’s done an amazing job.[LT] Alaric [Jackson] had a really good camp, as has [OL] Warren McClendon.

That’s a positive thing for us.“But Trost, I feel bad for Keagen with the way that happened, but that’s a temporary setback.

He’s a mentally tough, resilient guy.He’ll be back.

I really felt good with the depth we had at tackle.Obviously, you get a little bit thinned out when you felt good about those four guys, if you include Keagen into it.

But we’ve got some other guys that we’re going to continue to evaluate, and we’ll see.”The Rams selected Trost with the 93rd overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.The hope was that the rookie would emerge as a key piece of LA’s offensive line this season and beyond.Trost quickly lived up to expectations by turning heads in training camp, but his injury is a setback for a position group that is already thin because of the uncertainty surrounding Alaric Jackson.Jackson is facing a potential suspension from the league following a domestic violence arrest in June.Though Trost isn’t expected to be an immediate starter for the Rams, he provides valuable depth for the Rams as a swing tackle.

The success of the offensive line is contingent on two things: the durability of its starters and reliable depth options.Trost is poised to provide the latter.

McVay praised the rookie for his versatility and ability to adjust quickly to the NFL.“It does...
