NGHTMRE had already been working on the rework for months when Sparks, who in 2007 became the youngest winner in American Idol history at age 17, received the track and recorded her vocals before sending the demo back within days.“Opening that file and hearing her voice on the track for the first time was a moment I’ll never forget,” NGHTMRE said in an Instagram post.
Sparks has fielded interest in remakes and reworks of ‘No Air’ for years but NGHTMRE’s version was the one that felt right.Notably, it does not include Chris Brown’s vocals from the original, with Sparks’ lone voice belting atop shimmering synths and an effervescent drum & bass beat.
After first dipping into electronic dance music on the release of ‘We Own the Night, a recent collaboration with EDM.com class of 2026 artist AVELLO, Sparks fully immersed herself when NGHTMRE brought her on stage at ILLFest to debut the track together live.“She later told me that there had been a lot of people over the years who were interested in doing a remix of this song with her and this was the only one that felt right,” the DJ added.
