Portuguesesoccer star Quvin Castro dead at 25 after mid-game collapse

Portuguese soccer star Quévin Castro died after collapsing in the middle of a friendly in Portugal on Saturday.He was 25.The midfielder collapsed during a match between his club, third-tier Portuguese side Real Sport Clube, and Estrela da Amadora at the Estádio das Seixas stadium in the city of Malveira and was transported to a local hospital where he died.The Lisbon Football Association and Real Sport Clube announced Castro’s death on Saturday.

“Quevin Castro was far more than a player, he was a member of our family, leaving a mark on all those who had the privilege of knowing him, both on and off the pitch,” Real Sport Clube said in a social media post, per AP.“To the family, friends, and the affiliated club [Real Sport Clube], we extend our deepest condolences during this tragic time for Portuguese football,” the Lisbon Football Association added on Facebook.Castro made his professional debut for English club West Bromwich Albion in 2021 against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.He also had stints in the U.K.with Burton, Notts County and Gateshead before joining York in 2023.

He went on to log 15 appearances for the Minstermen before returning to Portugal.West Brom stated it was “devastated” to learn the passing of Castro.The club paid tribute to Castro during its match against Burnley on Sunday.

They will hold a period of applause in the 25th minute and players will also wear black armbands.The club added: “The thoughts of everyone at Albion are with Quevin’s loved ones at this desperately sad time.”...
