Padres key trade deadline acquisition suffers unfortunate injury in ridiculous fashion

Padres pitcher Casey Mize slipped up in a strange and detrimental way on Saturday.Mize, acquired by the Padres from the Tigers before the trade deadline, slipped down steps in the dugout after the second inning of his start against the Twins. He twisted his ankle during the slip, which led to him being removed from the game with two outs in the third inning.Mize suffered a sprained right ankle due to the dugout mishap.“I think my spike got caught on like the edge of the step, I guess, and then it kind of just made me slip a little bit.
I tried to catch myself, and I ended up rolling my ankle kind of on the bottom step there,” Mize said after the game.Perhaps Mize might not have stayed in the game for much longer anyways, as he had given up three home runs in the first two innings.
His final line was four runs on four hits, one walk, along with three strikeouts in 3 ⅔ innings pitched. The hope is that Mize won’t miss much time because of the ankle injury so that he can help San Diego earn a playoff spot. Then again, he hasn’t helped the Padres thus far, posting a brutal 7.00 ERA in his four starts since being traded.
He had a stellar 2.70 ERA in 16 starts with the Tigers before getting traded.Mize’s next scheduled start likely would have come against the Rays next weekend.Fans can expect an update on his status in the coming days — but might prefer he misses a start or two, considering his recent form....
