PGA suspends Tour Champions Matt Gogel for betting on golf in shocker

PGA Tour Champions player Matt Gogel has been suspended for six months for placing bets on PGA Tour events.Gogel, 55, released a statement claiming he unknowingly placed “small recreational wagers on golf” in 2024 and 2025.“I want to be clear that these wagers were not placed on regular PGA Tour events, PGA Tour Champions events or any tournament in which I participated,” Gogel said in a statement released by the PGA Tour.“I would never knowingly violate the integrity of the game of golf.I made an honest mistake and I look forward to playing in 2027 on the PGA Tour Champions.”The PGA Tour claimed that Gogel did not place any bets on tournaments in which he was a participant, but he still violated the outfit’s integrity program by wagering on PGA-sanctioned events.The Tour also noted that Gogel has cooperated throughout the entire process.Gogel’s suspension began Sunday and will run through Feb.
