Giants vs. Jets prediction: NFL preseason picks, odds, bets Friday

The two New York football clubs will meet Friday night at MetLife Stadium for their final preseason game. With both the Giants and Jets unlikely to give their starters much work as the NFL’s Week 1 looms, Friday should feature plenty of second- and third-string offensive units, which have generally had a tougher time sustaining drives this preseason. Both defenses are coming off dominant performances in their last preseason games. The Giants’ defense shined in last week’s 26-3 win over the Dolphins, holding Miami to only three first downs and 87 yards in the first half while forcing two turnovers. The Jets were even better, shutting out the Steelers 17-0 while recording four sacks and, shockingly, two interceptions.More importantly, neither defense fell apart once the starters left last week. The Giants continued suffocating the Dolphins deep into the game. The Jets reserves helped finish the shutout, providing some confidence that such success can carry into Friday. They should spend much of the game facing backup quarterbacks and skill players fighting for roster spots and roles. The Giants could turn to Jameis Winston and Brandon Allen for much of the night if Jaxson Dart is held out or only appears briefly.
The Jets, meanwhile, have gotten limited production from rookie Cade Klubnik and Bailey Zappe.Even if the starters make short cameos, most of this preseason finale should belong to the backups. The edge goes to the defenses in that case. After what both showed last week, we’ll trust them to keep those offenses in check.THE PLAY: Under 36.5 (-105, DraftKings Sportsbook)Dylan Svoboda is a versatile writer and analyst across many sports.
