Dillon Gabriels Browns roster status revealed after Deshaun Watson-Shedeur Sanders QB battle

Dillon Gabriel has fallen under the radar in Cleveland for obvious reasons.But the second-year quarterback reportedly will make the Browns’ final 53-man roster ahead of Week 1, according to ESPN, where he’ll likely slot behind starter Deshaun Watson and backup Shedeur Sanders on the depth chart.The Browns selected Gabriel in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft, taking him 94th overall out of Oregon, which was a surprise given Sanders’ freefall at the time.

Sanders was later selected in Round 5 and subsequently earned more snaps while the two competed for playing time as rookies.Gabriel, however, caps off a strong preseason with good news, extending his run in Cleveland for a second season.Gabriel started and completed 13 of 20 passes for 186 yards and three touchdowns as the Browns defeated the Patriots 37-13.

He threw touchdown passes to Malachi Corley, Luke Floriea and Joe Royer, finishing the preseason with his strongest performance of the summer.The performance was notable enough to reportedly secure his place on the roster.Browns head coach Todd Monken announced on Aug.24 that Watson would start Cleveland’s Sept.

13 opener against the Jaguars, reportedly suggesting that the controversial veteran QB gives the team their “best chance to win.” Watson completed 16 of 27 passes for 162 yards, no touchdowns and one interception during his preseason appearances.Sanders finished 15-for-22 for 153 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

Gabriel arrived into the NFL after a well-traveled college career, where he spent time at UCF and Oklahoma before enjoying a productive 2024 season in Oregon.At Oregon, Gabriel went 326-for-447 for 3,857 passing yards, completing 72.9 percent of his passes, recording 30 passing touchdowns to six interceptions.

Gabriel also has the all-time record of 155 passing touchdowns in his career, the most of anyone at the Division I/FBS-level....
