Exclusive | Sugar Ray Leonards troubled son Daniel arrested for alleged possession of dangerous cocktail of drugs

Daniel Leonard, the troubled 25-year-old son of boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard, was arrested with a dangerous combination of drugs earlier this summer.Daniel and another man were spotted by a cop “walking with an inflated balloon and a large cylindrical container believed to be a nitrous oxide tank,” at 1:17 a.m.July 7, a Santa Monica Police Department spokesperson told The California Post Wednesday.“As the officer approached, one man attempted to conceal the balloon behind him before dropping it to the ground,” the SMPD rep said.
“The second man appeared to conceal the container at his side.Officers detained both men and confirmed the container was a nitrous oxide tank.”Daniel and his cohort were then arrested for possessing nitrous oxide with intent to inhale.
Daniel was additionally booked on several other possession charges after authorities alleged they discovered methamphetamine and sedatives/benzodiazepines on him during the arrest.Court records show prosecutors ended up hitting Daniel with four separate misdemeanor charges over the incident — one for unlawfully possessing nitrous oxide and a substance containing nitrous oxide, one for possessing MDMA, one for possessing alprazolam, and one for possessing dextroamphetamine.Daniel is due in court for a hearing on the matter on Oct.12.Daniel was previously arrested earlier this year in Los Angeles on May 20, after he was accused of violating a protective order that was put in place following an alleged violent incident with his father, Ray.Ray stated in an application for a restraining order after Daniel’s arrest that his son’s behavior had recently changed.“I love my son but he has become a danger not only himself but to his family!” Ray wrote in the document.
