Mets survive Sean Manaeas bizarre outing in win over Marlins

Such has been Manaea’s season, which has alternated between impressive and, mostly, disappointing.The Mets survived the bizarre performance for a 7-5 victory over the Marlins at loanDepot park to win their third straight series.Manaea rolled perfect into the sixth, at 52 pitches, before Jakob Marsee blooped a single over third base leading off the inning.It was the first of five straight hits allowed by Manaea, who was removed by interim manager Andy Green with three runs already scored and runners on first and second.Overall, Manaea was charged for four earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts.

It continued a pattern of Manaea starting strong before encountering trouble the third (or in this case toward the latter end of the second) time through the lineup.It certainly helped that the Mets built a seven-run lead for Manaea by hitting three home runs against Sandy Alcantara.Jared Serna delivered an RBI double in the sixth for the Marlins’ initial run.Brian Navarreto followed with an RBI double and Heriberto Hernandez’s single put runners on the corners.

Otto Lopez’s RBI single concluded Manaea’s night.It was a fifth straight start in which Manaea allowed at least four earned runs.Over that stretch he’s pitched to a 6.75 ERA.

It followed a stretch of four starts by Manaea where he allowed two earned runs or fewer and pitched at least six innings.He’s pitched to a 4.79 ERA overall in the second season of a three-year contract worth $75 million.Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto homered in consecutive innings to begin the game, spearheading the offensive attack.
