NY sheriffs investigator allegedly used Flock cameras to track ex-girlfriend thousands of times

An upstate New York sheriff’s investigator has been arrested for allegedly using Flock Safety cameras to track several people she knows, including tracking a former girlfriend’s car thousands of times.Laurie Moore, 47, a 13-year veteran of the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, is accused of abusing the controversial license plate reader system to run searches on her ex’s vehicle around 3,000 times, as well as four additional license plates hundreds of times each, Syracuse.com reported.The camera system, which has been installed on public roadways, neighborhood entrances, highways, parking lots and school campuses in almost every state, uses AI to read license plates to track criminals, according to law enforcement.However, critics have raised privacy concerns over its data collection capabilities or potential misuse by authorities.Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple said Moore was arrested Wednesday after a tip from an outside source.He told WRGB that she gained access to the Flock system at the end of 2024, and that his office has tightened restrictions on who can access its data.“Now it’s only a supervisor.It undergoes an audit process with Internal Affairs, which is reviewed every 30 days.

That has to be kicked up to an undersheriff or chief,” Apple said.“What happened here is a breach of that trust.
