The Issue: The 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States.This day commemorates the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that occurred in 2001, a day that transformed the lives of countless people (“Heroes Over Zeroes,” Sept.10).We recall the bravery of those who rushed toward peril while others fled.
We honor the 343 firefighters, 71 law-enforcement officers, the military and civilian personnel at the Pentagon, the passengers and crew on American Airlines flights 11 and 77, United Airlines flights 175 and 93, as well as the thousands of innocent men, women and children who lost their lives that day.We may try to put things in order and move forward.However, the memory of the United States being attacked by people intent on destroying our way of life will always linger.Lou WalkerCape Coral, Fla.Twenty-five years ago, close to 3,000 Americans were killed and thousands more injured when terrorists carried out the worst attack on US soil in the history of our country.Our prayers continue for the families and victims of 9/11 and our service members who sacrificed their lives for our safety and security in the battles that followed.Paul BaconHallandale Beach, Fla.This year marks 25 years since the 9/11 attacks that changed just about every American life, and most certainly my own.
I look back on that day with sadness, but also frustration over the lack of acknowledgment of what was lost.We promised to never forget and some of us haven’t.We’re reminded every time we see the Manhattan skyline.
I’ve felt it every day since I was plunged into single parenthood.The new generation, 25 years later, can’t comprehend the magnitude of that day.They only know of the unpopular wars and divided society following the attacks.But through that darkness, people helped each other make it home, comforted the inconsolable — and some of our very bravest, like my husband, never made it home.
