Lindsay Clancys coworker reveals what killer mom did every time babies were born at their hospital
A labor and delivery nurse who worked with Lindsay Clancy at a hospital for years says the killer mom would be so moved during births that she would routinely break down in tears.“I often remember looking up after a baby was born, and Lindsay was my second nurse in the delivery, and just looking over at the mother and Lindsay with tears in her eyes because birth was just so emotional for her,” Meg Hamp said on an episode Thursday of Oprah Winfrey’s podcast, which was centered on Clancy’s trial and postpartum mental illness.“She felt that for so many other women — not just her friends or her family,” Hamp said of Clancy’s emotions during such moments.Hamp said she never saw any indication when they worked together at Massachusetts General Hospital that the 36-year-old mom — who fatally strangled her three small children with exercise cords in 2023 — was battling mental illness.Winfrey asked Hamp about her mentioning during her testimony at Clancy’s recent trial that she and the defendant had discussed the case of Andrea Yates, a Texas mother convicted in 2002 of capital murder and sentenced to life in prison for drowning her five children in the bathtub.Yates was retried in 2006 and found not guilty by reason of insanity, and committed to a state psychiatric facility where she remains to this day.It is widely believed that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis when she killed the children.Hamp told WInfrey.
“We had a patient on the unit that was suffering from some mental-health challenges, and there was just a lot of question around that, Lindsay being a new nurse, and there was another new nurse on the floor at that time, and I just asked [Clancy] if she had ever heard of the Andrea Yates case, and she said she hadn’t.“It seems like such a big case in the maternal health world, but Lindsay was at that age where she probably hadn’t lived through that – I’m a little bit older than Lindsay,” Hamp noted.Clancy’s trial ended...
