The Amsterdam Dance Event severed its official relationship with the organizers of a party planned for this year’s summit after doubling down on their booking of a French DJ facing sexual abuse allegations.The party, a collaboration between promoters Komplott and Overgave, had been set to take place at the Panama Amsterdam nightclub on Wednesday, October 21st.
Its lineup included the hard techno artist known as Shlømo, whose legal name is Shaun Baron-Carvais.In February, several women came forward with accounts describing sexual misconduct by Baron-Carvais and other DJs associated with the hard techno scene after a former booking agent published screenshots of conversations with accusers on social media.
A formal complaint against him was filed with the Paris Judicial Court in June, accusing him of “acts of rape, psychological violence and death threats,” according to the electronic music nonprofit METOODJS.A criminal investigation is now underway into “allegations of rape, death threats and psychological abuse involving Shlømo,” according to the Dutch media outlet Het Parool, which spoke with a lawyer representing one of the alleged victims.
Baron-Carvais has vehemently denied the allegations.ADE said Komplott and Overgave’s decision to proceed with Shlømo’s booking ran counter to the conference’s values and showed a lack of sensitivity toward its mission of fostering a safe nightlife community.
“Although ADE is a decentralized festival and programming decisions remain the responsibility of individual event organizers, we do have control over our mission, and our affiliated partners are expected to align with those standards,” the conference’s organizers said in a statement.As a result, ADE revoked its official affiliation with Komplott and Overgave but left open the possibility that the party could still take place independently without its backing.
