At least Sean McVay is self-aware.The Rams coach revealed in his “60 Minutes” interview with Jon Wertheim, which was taped early in training camp and aired Sunday — three days after their season-opening dud against the 49ers — that he wasn’t “in a good place right now” following practice.McVay told Wertheim that “success is never linear,” and went on to say that it’s always an “up and down” feeling, and when this happens, he’s trying to see how quickly he can snap out of it.Wertheim followed up by asking him if he has those moments, to which McVay responded, “All the time.”“I feel bad that you guys are doing this incredible story and you know, I’m not in a good place right now,” McVay said.“I’m not happy with how practice went.”McVay told Wertheim that he wasn’t focused during the interview, and even told him he felt “rude.”“You deserve more attention than what I’m capable of giving right now, and I feel bad about that,” McVay said.The interview between McVay and Wertheim was aired on Sunday — two days after his team was blown out of the water in a 27-7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne, Australia.From being crowned the NFL’s coach of the year in 2017 to winning a Super Bowl with the Rams in 2022, it appears that his ninth season as an NFL head coach might be the most amount of pressure he’s faced.Before the season began, the Rams were viewed as the clear favorite to win the Super Bowl, after the team bolstered its roster by acquiring Myles Garrett in June and getting former three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald to rejoin the team by coming out of retirement.Those moves have led to enormous expectations — and the scrutiny that comes with it.“The dream teams, the amount of pressure those teams put on themselves, they have to be perfect in every facet,” a coach with no ties to McVay told The Athletic.
