The Real-Life Castle Behind the Dracula Myth Is Hosting a Halloween Rave

Legend says Dracula rests by day and rises after dark, and this fall, so will a dancefloor inside his mythical castle.Flying Fish, a beer brand owned by the world’s largest brewing company, has announced that it will fly a small group of winners to Romania for a Halloween-themed rave inside Bran Castle, the Transylvania fortress long marketed to the world as the home of Dracula.

The promotion is called ‘Do You Dare to Party at Dracula’s Castle?’ and it is currently open for entries through October 20 across six countries: South Africa, Brazil, Mexico, Belgium, Peru and Canada.Four winners from each market will receive an all-inclusive trip, culminating in access to the invite-only party at the castle.

Scheduled for November 7, the rave will feature DJ sets from Sickick and Dubdogz.The choice of venue leans on a myth that has outgrown its own history.

Bran Castle rose in 1377 on the order of a Hungarian king, erected to guard a mountain pass between Wallachia and Transylvania, and its walls have far more to do with medieval border disputes than with vampires.Vlad the Impaler, the fifteenth century ruler whose brutality inspired Bram Stoker’s Dracula character, was briefly held captive in the area but by most historical accounts never lived within the castle itself.

The fortress later passed to Romania’s royal family and served as a retreat for Queen Marie before opening to tourists, who now visit by the hundreds of thousands each year.Regardless, the legend has proven sturdier than the facts, and Bran Castle is now hosting a rare rave that a few lucky travelers can sink their teeth into.
