After Suno released its first generative AI model built on landmark licensing deals with Warner Music Group, BMG and Believe, the controversial platform’s own users are tearing into the results, with complaints about the music flooding its community forums.Suno rolled out its v6 suite this month, retiring its previous models in the process.
CEO Mikey Shulman called the new generation “faster, more expressive and higher quality” in a blog post, characterizing the release as a use-case illustrating how AI and the music industry can “strengthen one another.” The embattled AI music company was sued by Warner, Universal and Sony in June 2024 over allegations that it trained its models on copyrighted music without permission.Universal and Sony remain in active litigation, but Warner ultimately settled with Suno in November 2025 under an agreement that called for new licensed models to replace the company’s existing ones.
“v6 was trained entirely from scratch, from the ground up,” said Suno’s Chief Product Officer, Jack Brody.“It’s trained on data that is different from the data that the previous models were trained on.” Many users have argued that the shift in training data explains why v6 doesn’t live up to the “higher quality” Suno promised.
The r/SunoAI subreddit has essentially morphed into a town hall to air grievances, specifically a thread titled ‘Bye bye Suno, I’m cancelling my subscription,” which has drawn hundreds of heated comments.“They actually made a perfect slop machine,” one user wrote.
