Listen to Trypt's Dark and Convulsive Circus Records EP, 'DUPPY'

Trypt has landed on Circus Records, the storied label launched by dubstep icons Flux Pavilion and Doctor P, with a must-listen EP, DUPPY.The Toronto-based beatsmith has been a frequent featured artist in EDM.com‘s ‘Fresh Picks‘ series, which showcases bold new electronic music from the scene’s most promising producers.

His latest project was intended to bring together the disparate strains of dubstep that have influenced him throughout his career, he said.“DUPPY represents the different sides of dubstep that have always influenced me,” Trypt explains.

“There is the swing, space and sub pressure of UK 140, but also the scale and intensity of the North American sound.I wanted the EP to move through all of those elements while still feeling like one complete project.” The EP ushers in a new chapter for an artist whose career began during the blog-era explosion of dubstep, from the UK to America.

Trypt first gained attention back in 2011 after receiving an early co-sign from Skrillex, who supported his remix of the dubstep icon’s track ‘All I Ask of You.’ He ultimately nabbed bookings alongside Nero, Zeds Dead, Adventure Club and other pioneering dubstep acts, releasing various fan-favorite remixes along the way.Years later, Trypt has returned with a sound shaped by both sides of the Atlantic.

DUPPY begins with ‘GULLY MAN SZN,’ a collaboration with South Wales MC Comma Dee that places his gritty vocals over a convulsive, claustrophobic 140 beat. The title track follows, lurching forward with skittering percussion and a cavernous low end.

‘HIT THE SAFE’ pushes furthest toward modern dubstep with heavy-hitting production before Trypt closes with ‘LAST KISS,’ delivering arguably the EP’s standout by blending aching vocals with writhing bass. You can listen to DUPPY below and find the new EP on streaming platforms here.
