Ultra Japan Adds "No Public Defecation" to Its List of Festival Rules

Ultra Japan has laid out a few ground rules ahead of its upcoming 2026 edition in Tokyo, and at least one of them should go without saying.In an Instagram post this week, the festival’s organizers issued a warning and urged attendees to refrain from behaviors that might cause “inconvenience to neighbors or other visitors.” The list covers the expected: littering, drunken disturbances and loud music near the venue, which are all par for the course.

Less so, is this, printed in bold yellow text for emphasis: “Defecating in places other than toilets.” As the old adage goes, rules don’t get written unless someone has already broken them.“Ultra Japan may not be able to be held in the future if these kind of behaviors happen,” the post warns, meaning the festival’s future is at least partially at the mercy of basic bathroom etiquette.
