NYPD heroically rescues woman about to jump off Brooklyn Bridge, harrowing video shows

Cops rescued a woman who was perched in the cables of the Brooklyn Bridge Friday and appeared to be close to jumping.Crowds of pedestrians watched as the woman, who cops have not yet named, climbed past the pedestrian walkway onto the bridge’s steel beams shortly before noon.Video showed her perched high on a metal utility box attached to the steel beams dangling her feet over the treacherous water below.Mariana Madrigal, 30, caught the harrowing event while sightseeing.“There was a girl that was trying to kill herself,” Madrigal said.“I didn’t hear her, but she was acting like it.”Helicopters from the NYPD Aviation Unit hovered above while harness-clad members of the NYPD Emergency Service Unit cops tethered themselves to the bridge’s thick cables and scaled the structure to rescue the woman.
