Influential electronic music producer Boys Noize is set to score Replacer, an upcoming movie in the “psycho-sexual” sub-genre of horror films.That’s according to its synopsis, which says Halsey will play a struggling DJ stranded in Montreal who becomes involved with an alluring artist and his circle of friends, the operators of an underground radio station.
Things begin to unravel when the station’s broadcasts are corrupted by a strange signal emanating from beneath the city’s subway system, setting off a transformation that threatens her character, Proxy, and those around her.The premise makes Boys Noize, whose real name is Alex Ridha, a fascinating fit for the project.
Across seven solo albums, he has built a career around abrasive electro, techno and acid house with an industrial edge.He also brings previous screen experience with scoring credits for the German thriller Who Am I and Oliver Stone’s Snowden, among others.
Ridha also remixed Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ Grammy-nominated Challengers soundtrack, reimagining nine songs to produce a continuous DJ mix.His rework of ‘Pre Signal’ was named by EDM.com as one of the year’s best electronic tracks.
More recently, Ridha contributed to the soundtrack of 2025’s TRON: Ares alongside Reznor and Ross, who comprise Nine Inch Nails.That connection gives Replacer another interesting musical wrinkle considering Halsey’s own history with the iconic duo, who produced her 2021 album If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power.
Meanwhile, Replacer marks Halsey’s first lead film role after appearances in MaXXXine and Americana.The chart-topping singer-songwriter co-wrote the screenplay with Jogia and The Matrix co-director Lilly Wachowski joined the project as an executive producer, per Deadline.
