A new free browser game, Rave Survival, invites ravers to put their festival instincts to the test.The game comes from our friends at the independent electronic music publication Midnight Rebels.
Created by the outlet’s web developer Daniel Dulce, the game draws on the visual language of classic 16-bit JRPGs, the pixel art role-playing games that defined the Super Nintendo and SEGA Genesis era of the early 1990s, and drops you into a laser-lit crowd with one goal: reach the stage.Along the way you need to stay hydrated, find all six of your friends and your phone, and dodge a gauntlet of obstacles including mosh pits, fire towers, dancers and a mob closing in from all sides.
For example, a wall of people lurches forward every eight to ten seconds and you must “outrun it or get swallowed.” Karen encounters are also on the obstacle list, peppered with clubbers shouting things like, “Turn that deafening bass down right now!” and “Don’t touch me!” as you push past.The game is set to three original tracks by producer ÆON VÄLE, the techno and trance project of Midnight Rebels‘ own NJ Bigornia, pulsing through the speakers as you navigate the rave.
The three tracks, ‘Flatline,’ ‘Icarus’ and ‘Nimbus,’ can be toggled at any point during gameplay.Rave Survival is free to play on the Midnight Rebels website....
