Cornell attacks gang rape accuser as irresponsible for essay claims while defending how it handled accusations

Cornell University on Monday furiously defended its alleged kid-glove handling of rape accusations against seven frat brothers by claiming it did more than just have them write punishment essays — and blasting their reported victim as “irresponsible’’ for suggesting otherwise.“None of the individuals charged were offered the opportunity to write essays as a sole consequence of their involvement,” the Ivy League institution wrote in a statement just hours after the local district attorney announced he was launching a new criminal investigation into the alleged horrific ketamine-fueled gang rape.The prestigious school insisted it “supports” the DA’s decision to finally put the case before a grand jury.But it also took a major swipe at the young men’s accuser, calling her lawsuit over the alleged crime “irresponsible” for suggesting there were minimal consequences for the accused frat bros.“A continuation of the false narrative that there were minimal consequences in this case is irresponsible, will make survivors feel less safe and supported, and will perpetuate the underreporting of sexual assault,’’ the school said.The statement claimed some of the frat brothers were suspended and expelled after a probe by an internal disciplinary panel.The school had claimed in an earlier statement to The Post — which first broke news of the suit — that  “federal privacy law” prevented the school from providing “a public statement on any other disciplinary response.”While Cornell now admits some of the men were expelled, the school still refuses to reveal how many of the seven student defendants were actually expelled versus temporarily suspended — or if any of the alleged creeps are still taking classes.Cornell did not respond to a list of Post questions asking for clarity.The accuser filed a civil suit against her alleged rapists after the DA initially refused to bring charges against them....
