President Donald Trump’s resolve is paying off, proving the “Iran is stronger now” crowd to be completely wrong.Oil shipments from the Persian Gulf are now approaching prewar levels, ending the energy blackmail — even as Tehran’s resources dwindle, pushing the regime ever closer to having to abandon its nuclear ambitions.Crucially, the campaign has proved that Iran can’t sustainably stop Gulf shipments — as long as a real leader stands up to its bullying.That’s a huge win for the entire civilized world.Consider the progress: Crude exports from the Gulf fell from 18.3 million barrels a day in February to just 4.3 million in March; now they’re averaging 13.1 million, or about 72% of the prewar level.On Sunday, Energy Secretary Chris Wright noted that one day last week saw 20 million barrels exit.Part of the turnaround is greater use of alternatives to the Strait of Hormuz, such as via Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline, which can carry up to 7 million barrels a day.But credit, too, US military action to undo Tehran’s efforts.With mines cleared and confirmed Iranian attacks on shipping down to zero, oil through Strait this month hit its highest level (7.3 million barrels a day) since the war began.Yes, Iran’s attempt to hold the world’s oil supply hostage sent prices soaring, socking consumers.No one likes paying $4 a gallon (though that’s still below the Biden peak), but Wright argues that a lack of worldwide oil-refining capacity (partly thanks to US refinery shutdowns by Democrats like Joe Biden and Calif’s Gavin Newsom, partly due to Tehran’s damage to its neighbors’ refineries, now being repaired) is more to blame for high gas prices than Iran’s Persian Gulf threats.
