Bizarre elevator music playing in middle of Peacocks Yankees-Red Sox broadcast had fans baffled

The rock-centric theme played while Yankees ace Cam Schlittler pitched to Nick Sogard in a 1-0 game with one out and one on and as play-by-play man Jason Benetti discussed Boston’s turnaround.The music did not play on NBC, though, per Awful Announcing.It made for a weird mix of natural ballpark sounds, an instrumental that seemed misplaced and Benetti trying to tell the listeners about how Boston saved its season.As expected, fans had quite the takes.One user posted a clip that featured them laughing in the background.Another listened for a bit, asked “Bro, what the f–k?” before pausing the broadcast to check if the music was a mistake, resuming the steam and hearing the music again.“Peacock, what we doing, bro?” the person said.“What the f–k.”A third commented: “Hey, Peacock, can you turn up the music louder over the broadcast? I couldn’t hear it the first time.”Several other X users questioned why there was “elevator music” playing.The use of background music can already be a divisive topic among sports fans, particularly at baseball stadiums.While NBA games feature music being played throughout the game, some baseball stadiums employ aggressive use of sounds and/or songs between pitches to amplify the crowd.Fans at home usually can’t hear that, but those watching on Peacock on Tuesday got to see what it would be like to watch a baseball game while montage music played.Peacock and NBC will again have the broadcast for Wednesday’s Game 2 in The Bronx when the Yankees look to close out this Wild Card series with Max Fried starting....
