Beatport Launches New Electronic Genre Category, Indie Tech

Beatport, the online marketplace that many DJs rely on to find new tracks, has introduced a new genre category called ‘Indie Tech.’ A heavier and glossier cousin of Indie Dance, the new category includes a dedicated genre page, a Top 100 chart and a section where the platform can promote tracks and releases that fit the sound.Beatport described Indie Tech as music “built around punchy drums, prominent basslines and bold synth hooks.” Beatport named Adam Ten, Mita Gami, Vintage Culture and EDM.com Class of 2025 artist Max Styler among the producers linked to the sound, alongside record labels such as Maccabi House, Higher Ground and Solomun’s Diynamic.
The Top 10 currently features Styler’s ‘Body Shake’ and Ten’s ‘I Never Knew,’ among others. The company said the change followed conversations with artists, labels and other members of the electronic music community, many of whom favored treating the style as its own category.
“We don’t always get everything right, and when we don’t, it’s important that we listen, learn and do right by the communities we serve,” said Raph Pujol, Beatport’s VP of Global Curation.“Indie Dance has built a strong identity and community over the years, and as new sounds began to emerge and evolve within the genre, we felt a responsibility to protect that identity while still embracing where the music is heading.
“Creating a new space allows both to thrive on their own terms – giving the Indie Dance community the clarity it deserves, while giving this new Indie Tech movement the room to grow and establish an identity of its own.” Scroll to continue more from edm Sebastian Ingrosso’s Refune Label, Home to ‘Calling’ and ‘Reload,’ Is Relaunching After 6 Years You can explore Indie Tech on Beatport here....
