Joey Porter Jr. felt disrespected by Steelers before trade to Cowboys

Joey Porter Jr.is feeling the love in the Lone Star State — much more so than he did while in Pittsburgh.The newly acquired Cowboys cornerback told reporters on Thursday that he “definitely felt disrespected” by the Steelers amid contract talks and that his new team has been “showing me that they value me more over here.”“It was a hard process, a lot of ups and downs,” Porter said of the talks.

“Definitely felt disrespected.Definitely felt undervalued, but that’s old news now.

“That’s how I look at it.I’m on to new beginnings, new chapters and I’m a Cowboy.

I’m in Dallas, so I’m happy about that.” Porter, the 32nd overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, and the Steelers had been deadlocked in talks over a new contract with the 26-year-old entering the final year of his rookie deal.Now in Texas, Porter has already felt a shift in how his new organization views his worth compared to the old one. “It was the value.I didn’t feel like it was really that over there,” he said to reporters about the Steelers.

“[Dallas] is showing me that they value me more over here so far with the talks that I’ve had.“I feel like that’s all I need to really show them I can do what I do.”If Porter’s trade to Dallas seemed to occur suddenly, that’s reportedly because it did. Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reported that the Steelers started Wednesday with no intention of trading Porter, but when he showed up later that day and told the coaching staff his back was becoming an issue again and pulled himself from practice. Porter had been a full participant in the practices the day before and the decision to pull himself over is claim of back issues on Wednesday seemed to break the trust between the Steelers and Porter....
