Tape B's Debut Album Pays Homage to Old-School Dubstep: Listen to 'Ghosts In The Static'

Tape B channels the classic dubstep sounds that shaped his career on his long-awaited debut album, Ghosts In The Static, out now.Across 12 tracks, the record taps into the nostalgic sounds that first drew Tape B to dubstep: thick textures, cinematic soundscapes and gritty energy.
But rather than replicate the past, he uses those influences as a foundation for something fresh.“I wrote this album as a love letter to the era of dubstep that made me fall in love with the genre and to capture what that time felt like to me through my own perspective,” Tape B shared on social media.
“It’s not meant to be a recreation of that era, but my interpretation of what made it so special to me.I took the feelings that inspired me when I first discovered dubstep and pushed it through the way I make music today.” This balance between generations has become increasingly relevant for the EDM.com Class of 2025 star, who has watched the scene shift as a younger generation discovers bass music.
In a recent exclusive interview with EDM.com, he opened up about the pressure to keep pace with an evolving scene while staying connected to his roots.“A lot of music is changing now,” he said.
“Even with the rap I like, I feel like I’m unc now, listening to 2015 SoundCloud rap. There’s younger people coming to our shows, and obviously they know who Juicy J, Mac Miller and ASAP Rocky are.
But, a lot of them also listen to a lot of newer artists.I feel like it’s on us to learn who these new people are, and be a little bit more relevant.
Because you don’t want to be unc.” That sentiment takes form on Ghosts In The Static.Tape B isn’t trying to recreate the dubstep he grew up on, and he’s certainly not abandoning it in favor of new trends.
Instead, he’s finding a middle ground between OG dubstep influences and the perspective he’s developed as an artist today. The result is a debut album that functions as a conversation between generations.
