Texas barber found $128K in cash on top of bank ATM then he returned it all: police

A North Texas barber found a small fortune resting right on top of a bank ATM last month — and returned every single cent, according to authorities. The good Samaritan, who did not identify himself to CBS, went to the bank machine with a 42-year-old woman when the pair spotted bags filled with $128,510 in cash and a smaller bag packed with 19 checks, police said.“I’ve never had a case like this before, ever,” Lewisville police detective Gina Miller told CBS.After contacting 911, the do-gooder — a 37-year-old from the mid-sized city in Denton County — noticed one of the bags bore a Chick-fil-A label and tried to hand the money over to the fast-food restaurant, but the manager denied ownership.A responding officer counted the cash twice to confirm that every last bill was accounted for and the money was promptly stored away in a safe location.“I think to find that kind of money, or that amount of money, is certainly rare,” Lewisville police chief Brook Rollins told CBS.“That’s very unusual. And then to not find it connected to any criminal activity is certainly unusual.”Cops confirmed the cash belonged to Bank of America and was being processed by its cash management vendor, Brinks.A Brinks technician had serviced the ATM and was tasked with transporting the money, but accidentally left the bags sitting on top of the machine, according to police and CBS.“The bag was just sitting there,” Miller said.
“There was no indication of a crime occurring. It looked like it was just left there by accident.”Bank of America later retrieved the lost money.Rollins said the debacle shows how much police depend on community members. “We are one half of the equation, the police; the other half is the community,” he told CBS.The Lewisville Police Department and Bank of America did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment....
