Netflix reopens the Daejon Love saga the 49ers would rather forget

The San Francisco 49ers’ 5-0 start to the season has made their strange offseason easy to forget. But Netflix is dragging perhaps the biggest and strangest story of them all back into the spotlight.News broke Wednesday that Netflix is producing a documentary on Daejon Love, the man who allegedly used the 49ers brand to swindle money from more than two dozen women for more than $1.3 million.Love allegedly pretended to be a 49ers wide receiver, and kept this fake persona up for well over two years before getting arrested back in August.
The Netflix documentary is part of their “Untold” documentary series will be titled “Untold: Wide Deceiver”.The story will reportedly be told through firsthand accounts from those affected by the alleged scheme, presumably many of the women he is accused of swindling.Last month, one alleged victim named Gwen Herndon submitted a “complaint/concern” form about Love via the 49ers’ website back in December, eight months before Love’s eventual arrest.
This went against the 49ers’ claims that they hadn’t been informed about what Love was doing before his arrest.A date for the documentary’s release hasn’t been announced yet.The 49ers would surely wish this story disappeared. But Netflix turning it into a documentary is going to ensure it continues to live on.All San Francisco can do at this point is keep winning games and make the conversation about their on-field success instead of this story they would Love to forget....
