Girlfiend killed beau by deliberately crashing into trees at 100 mph after learning she was pregnant

A Florida woman has been found guilty of deliberately crashing her car at nearly 100 miles per hour and killing her boyfriend hours after she learned she was pregnant in a case eerily similar to that of convicted “Hell on Wheels” killer Mackenzie Shirilla.Leigha Mumby, 25, was behind the wheel driving recklessly at up to 110 mph while arguing with her beau, New York native Daniel Waterman, 22, when she suddenly turned left off of Interstate 95 in Flagler County and crashed into several trees in Feb.2025.Waterman was initially left in a coma and was paralyzed from his broken neck down — but woke long enough to tell authorities Mumby crashed on purpose before he died of pneumonia in October 2025.Mumby was also badly injured — but has since recovered and given birth to the baby she was carrying during the deadly 94 mph crash.Waterman had revealed that the two started fighting after Mumby found out she was pregnant and because he had been texting with another woman.“She’s so furious she calls her best friend to vent about it, screaming about Daniel texting with another woman,” Assistant State Attorney Melissa Clark said during closing arguments, Flagerlive reported.“And when her best friend doesn’t react the way she likes, she abruptly hangs up.
That was Leigha Mumby’s demeanor at the time of the crash.”Mumby claimed she didn’t know what led to the crash, and her defense attorney, Reid Hart, denied she was “on a suicide mission.”“There’s absolutely zero evidence or reasons to believe that she was in a place where she was going to put all of their lives, including hers and that of her own unborn child, at risk of serious violent harm or death,” he said. “Her efforts to avoid the crash, as soon as that input gets made, illustrate that she never intended for that to happen in the first place.”A jury convicted Mumby Wednesday of vehicular homicide and reckless driving with serious bodily injury after deliberating for just over an hour...
