After following FISHER across the globe from EDC Las Vegas to Tomorrowland and an Ibiza residency in between, ‘Staring at the Sun’ is finally out now on the producer’s own Catch & Release label.Driven by buoyant piano chords, the track is bright and bouncy, built around the push and pull of loving someone who feels both all-consuming and out of reach.
LAUREL’s soaring, indie-inflected vocal leans right into that melancholy. The British musician drew inspiration from the Greek myth of Icarus for her lyrics.
“To me, the song is about meeting someone who feels like your version of the sun,” LAUREL said in a statement.“You can’t savor them, as it would be dangerous, but you also can’t live without them, because that would also mean the end of life.
So you’re stuck in this in-between state, but in the end you’re so mesmerized by them that you have no choice but to stare into the sun anyway, even if it were to mean your own downfall.” The release follows a monstrous past few months for FISHER.Last weekend, the Aussie house music superstar took the stage at Goldenvoice’s Head Trip alongside Chris Lake, one of the most buzzy DJ sets of the festival despite being cut short by lightning on the first night. He now heads into two nights at Forest Hills Stadium in New York City this weekend ahead of multiple global festival appearances.
Earlier this year, FISHER notched three consecutive number ones on Billboard’s Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart with ‘Rain,’ ‘Favour’ and ‘What a Life.’ You can listen to ‘Staring at the Sun’ below and find the new collaboration on streaming platforms here.Scroll to continue more from edm EDM.com On-Deck Circle: Martin Garrix, Tiësto, Hardwell & More Follow FISHER: X: x.com/followthefishtvInstagram: instagram.com/followthefishtvTikTok: tiktok.com/@fisherFacebook: facebook.com/followthefishtv.tvSpotify: tinyurl.com/ywmrm645 Follow LAU...
