Eagles make Jalen Hurts IR decision as QBs return timeline from blood clot remains uncertain

The Eagles might have avoided the worst with Jalen Hurts for now.Philadelphia is not planning to place its star quarterback on injured reserve despite a superficial blood clot in his leg that has sidelined him indefinitely, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The decision would keep open the possibility of Hurts returning before the mandatory four-game absence that comes with an IR stint. The Eagles are still gathering information about Hurts’ condition and potential treatment options, but there is no timetable for his return to the field.Earlier this week, the Eagles shockingly revealed that Hurts had been dealing with a superficial blood clot in his calf since suffering an injury on Oct.4 against the Rams. The calf injury was listed on last Friday’s injury report, although Hurts was listed as a full participant in practice that day.“It was a very unique experience, to say the least,” Hurts said Wednesday.
“I don’t want to get into the details of kind of leading up to the game and whatnot, but got nicked up in the Rams game.”Philadelphia is 2-3 and coming off three straight losses heading into its Week 6 matchup against the Panthers on Sunday.Third-year Stanford product Tanner McKee, who has played in six games throughout his first two seasons, throwing five touchdowns and one interception, will get the start behind center for the Eagles. The Hurts injury adds to a long list of problems for the Eagles through the first six weeks of the 2026 season. Star tackle Lane Johnson suddenly retired earlier this month, and the team then traded away lineman Cam Jurgens a short time later. Skill position stars Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith have also missed time with injuries....
