The Company Behind London's Printworks Is in Talks With Developers in New York and Miami

Almost three years after Printworks closed its doors, the club’s parent company is looking well beyond London for its next group of landmark venues.Broadwick, the company that operated the beloved electronic music venue in southeast London, is in talks with developers to expand to New York and Miami, The Times reports.

The company is also scouting buildings in Paris, Berlin and Milan as it seeks to double its annual revenue to £200 million (roughly $267.5 million USD).“We’ve got a game plan within the next sort of four to five years to double our current revenues of £100 million to £200 million and that is really through expansion in the UK and globally,” said CEO Simon Tracey.

Broadwick’s secret sauce, Tracey explained, is searching for unconventional buildings to convert into nightlife venues before inking performance agreements with top DJs and electronic music artists. They often sell as many tickets as some live bands or more, which gives him confidence even though Britain’s nightlife industry is under strain.

Look no further than Printworks. The innovative venue, which opened in 2017 inside the former presses of the Daily Mail and Evening Standard in Rotherhithe, hosted hundreds of events featuring influential acts such as Carl Cox, Pendulum, Above & Beyond, Four Tet and Jamie xx.

Printworks closed at the end of 2023 so that British Land and AustralianSuper could redevelop the site as part of the Canada Water regeneration scheme. However, Broadwick is now developing a “new version” of the defunct club and plans to reopen it within the new development in 2029, according to The Times.

The company, which remains owned by its founders, now runs 24 venues, including Drumsheds in Tottenham and Depot Mayfield in Manchester.Tracey said he’s eyeing landmark properties in the mold of those clubs, though he acknowledged that the search for “unique, large-scale buildings” has proven difficult.
