Daft Punk and LEGO Partner to Release Official Pyramid Stage Set

The two robots who defined Daft Punk’s public image have found a new home on the LEGO baseplate. The LEGO Group has announced a partnership with Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo that will turn the legendary electronic music duo into mini-figures.
The collaboration will carry them through products, video content and a series of brand events, with the first official set built around a concert stage that fans designed themselves. The companies introduced the arrangement with a short film in which the figures follow a floating holographic brick through a shadowy landscape until they reach a doorway the company calls the “gates-of-play.” As they step through, the surrounding world begins to assemble itself in rhythm with the soundtrack, each brick clicking into place on the beat until the robots are revealed at the controls of a console built entirely from LEGO elements.
Two songs from Daft Punk catalog supply the music.‘Voyager,’ a cut from their 2001 album Discovery, opens the film and ‘Human After All,’ the title track of their third album in 2005, sets up a closing joke about the robots becoming “Builders After All.” LEGO Group said they combed the duo’s archive before settling on the pair.
The product at the center of the deal began as a hobby rather than a corporate plan. Its model is the pyramid stage from Daft Punk’s seminal 2007 ‘Alive’ tour, and its designers are Patrick Harboun, who lives in Luxembourg, and his son.
They submitted the design to LEGO Ideas, a platform where fans propose sets and the company reviews any idea that attracts 10,000 supporters. The entry won the grand prize in the platform’s ‘Music to Our Ears’ challenge in 2020 and later passed that threshold, a milestone that moves a fan creation from a heap of loose parts toward a boxed set on a store shelf.
LEGO Group has now approved the set for development.Scroll to continue more from edm Dom Do...
