Two decades ago, Claude VonStroke’s debut album, Beware of the Bird, was making waves in some of the world’s most celebrated clubs including DC10 fabric and Watergate. What began as a quirky take on house music would go on to define his trailblazing sound.
Now, VonStroke is celebrating the album’s 20th anniversary with a special edition that gives its classics a fresh spin.Iconic tracks like ‘Deep Throat,’ ‘The Whistler’ and ‘Who’s Afraid of Detroit?’ are remixed by Justin Martin, Kevin Saunderson and more.
The road to Beware of the Bird was anything but conventional.Long before VonStroke’s style of house music found its footing in the United States, he was building tracks with “bootleg software and a $100 MIDI keyboard,” fielding gig requests on MySpace from Circoloco and swatting away record executives eager to get their hands on his masters, according to a press release.
It was a DIY beginning that set the stage for a career defined by creative independence.Beware of the Bird’s eccentric sound helped VonStroke carve out a lane of his own, laying the groundwork for the unmistakable sonic identity that has followed him throughout his acclaimed career.
Twenty years later, the album’s legacy is getting a proper celebration, including a first-ever vinyl release.“Even though there were multiple hits, the full album ‘Beware of the Bird’ was never put out on vinyl,” VonStroke said in a press release.
“That was 20 years ago.And as I said, I kept all my masters.
So this year I’m finally pressing up the whole thing and it’s coming out on my new label, Wrong Number Records.” Stream the deluxe edition of Beware of the Bird below.Scroll to continue more from edm Listen to Above & Beyond’s Propulsive New Single, ‘Nights Like This’ Follow Claude VonStroke: X: x.com/vonstrokeInstagram: instagram.com/vonstrokeFacebook: facebook.com/claude.vonstrokeTikTok: tiktok.com/@...
