Anthropic files for blockbuster IPO that could value AI giant at $2 trillion

Dario Amodei’s Anthropic formally filed paperwork to go public on Monday, setting the stage for a historic IPO that could value the artificial intelligence giant as high as $2 trillion. The frontier AI lab headed by CEO Dario Amodei, known for its Claude chatbot, said it plans to list on the Nasdaq exchange under the stock ticker “ANT,” according to an S-1 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.Anthropic had submitted paperwork confidentially in June, allowing the SEC to review its finances before the public announcement.Anthropic posted a staggering net loss of $80.7 billion in the first half of 2026 as it ramped up spending its models — a figure that could further spook Wall Street investors concerned that the AI bubble is about to burst.

Meanwhile, its revenue over the same period was just $16.3 billion. The IPO paperwork surfaced just weeks after Amodei publicly called for an industrywide slowdown on development of frontier AI models due to the risks they could pose to humanity.Amodei also called for embedding third-party safety evaluators at Anthropic and other top AI labs, which sparked criticism that the plan was rife with conflicts of interest.Anthropic’s public debut could challenge records set by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, which raised $86 billion at a $1.75 trillion valuation during its historic debut in June. The IPO is being led by Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, the filing said.
