Everything But the Girl have lined up a new album, Blue Reservoir. After returning from a 24-year break, in 2023, with Fuse, the duo of Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt is back with 10 more originals, out February 19 via Buzzin’ Fly/Virgin Music Group.
The announcement comes with new song “Young and Dumb” and a video directed by Edward Bishop from a treatment by the duo.The video was shot at London venue Moth Club, where, last year, Thorn and Watt performed a residency that informed the direction of the new material.“There was an intensity and simplicity to the Moth shows that took us back to how we started out,” Thorn said in a press release.
“Direct, rooted in guitar and voice, a few extra colors.”Watt wrote and performed much of the album on a Spanish nylon-string guitar.“It is the sound of so much of the music I first connected with growing up, and I’d never actually owned one,” he said.
“It became quite an emotional springboard for me.I found a voice I thought I’d lost.” Longtime collaborators Rex Horan and Evan Jenkins play double bass and drums, respectively, on Blue Reservoir, joined by percussionist Fabio de Oliveira.Blue Reservoir:01 Forward02 Scala03 Young and Dumb04 Do What You Can05 Christmas Gone06 Courage Mon Brave07 The Round and Round08 Fork in the Road09 Good Hope10 The Great Unknown...
