Shocking video shows middle school student, 11, being viciously beaten by classmate

Shocking video shows an 11-year-old girl being brutally beaten by a classmate in their Florida middle school, with the attacker facing felony assault charges.The tough-to-watch footage shows the victim being dragged onto the floor and repeatedly punched in the face by another girl in the cafeteria at Nautilus Middle School in Miami Beach late last month.Other students stood by and filmed the savage attack, which left the young girl concussed and too terrified to return to school.“I was just grateful that she was alive,” the girl’s devastated mother told WPLG through sobs.“She was struck over 40 times before anybody intervened.”“I just want to put her back in my tummy like when I was pregnant with her and keep her there forever,” she added of her motherly instinct to want to protect her child.An attorney representing the beaten girl accused the school of failing to protect her despite allegedly being warned beforehand that there was going to be an “imminent attack.”Miami-Dade County Public Schools officials said staff members met with the two students before the attack to try to de-escalate the situation.

County schools police officers responded once they were alerted about the altercation.“The matter was addressed in accordance with the code of student conduct and referred to law enforcement,” the school insisted.The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office said the case was initially referred for a misdemeanor battery charge through a juvenile diversion program.However, prosecutors filed a second-degree felony aggravated battery charge after the victim’s mother requested prosecution and authorities considered the girl’s injuries.The charged girl was not identified because of her age.
