The Issue: New York City district attorneys reduce charges to shield criminal illegals from deportation.I’m a former prosecutor from Brooklyn and always insisted that the defendants be treated fairly — meaning no special deals even if a guilty plea would trigger immigration consequences, as it should (“Keeping illegal immigrants from deportation,” Oct.26).This was my personal policy before downgrading charges for foreign criminals became an institutional policy.
