COSTA and Linney Confront the Fear of Being Seen in New Single, 'Siren Call'

For a producer whose rise began with reworking other people’s songs, writing his own lyrics represents a different kind of exposure in itself.COSTA takes that step alongside Linney on ‘Siren Call,’ their new single.
As detailed in EDM.com’s recent interview with the rising producer, COSTA built an audience through SoundCloud flips before dropping ‘You Got Me’ on Monstercat and ‘Dimension’ on Zeds Dead’s Deadbeats. His latest release brings him further into the lyrical process, exploring how asking someone to come closer can feel as frightening as being left alone.
The collaboration emerged from a six-hour cowriting session where both artists found common ground in the pressures surrounding their careers, including fear of judgment, falling short and reaching for support that might never arrive.“It was my first time ever writing lyrics,” COSTA said.
He described giving those feelings a voice with Linney as “completely natural, because we’ve both lived them.” Twangy, futuristic synth plucks wind through the arrangement, tightening the tension around Linney’s vocal before giving way to distorted vowel bass, channeling the unruly energy of dubstep’s early stateside surge. You can listen to ‘Siren Call’ below and find the new single on streaming services here.
