A Challah Festival Is Hitting Five U.S. Cities, Bread Raves Included
A new festival is putting carbs on the lineup this fall, and challah is the headliner.FOODISH, the culinary initiative powered by ANU, the Museum of the Jewish People, is launching the inaugural Global ChallahFest from November 6-29 with stops in New York, Chicago, Washington, Boston, Atlanta, Tel Aviv and London.
The series kicks off on the 6th in Chicago with a “challah-on-a-stick” Shabbat dinner before wrapping on the 29th in London with an intergenerational conversation on Jewish food, heritage and identity, per Time Out.The rest of the programming goes well beyond your typical food festival.
Attendees can expect bakery tours, student baking showdowns, VIP brunches, shared Friday-night dinners and the showstopper: a ‘Challah Rave.’ That event is a DJ-led, late-night showcase coming to New York on November 14 with DJ Falmer.“A challah can become a conversation, a work of art or a rave,” said FOODISH CEO Merav Oren.
The lineup also includes author Jake Cohen, who kicks off the New York leg at William Greenberg Desserts, and cookbook author Joan Nathan, who will host open Q&A sessions.Elsewhere, Chef Einat Admony and DJ Falmer are also teaming up with OneTable for a beat-heavy Kabbalat Shabbat in New York.
